When painting a landscape, it's a good idea to consider the temperature of the light. If the light is warm, as in a sunset, orange pastel pencils will be appropriate. If, on the other hand, the light is cold, to represent water or shade for example, pastel pencils in shades of blue will be appropriate.

For best results, use them on white or light-coloured, fine- or medium-grain paper.
