The emblematic Pierre Noire Sketch Carré is a must-have in any drawing kit.

Recognised by art academies for centuries and used by the greatest artists, such as Picasso, it is made from natural pigments and is perfectly suited to realistic drawings, quick sketches and light and shadow studies.

The leads in Esquisse Sanguine, Bistre, Noir and Blanc Conté à Paris Carrés are slightly softer than those in Crayons.

The black colour is extremely intense, indelible, matt and velvety.

There are 3 graduations available: HB, B, 2B. It is the degree of firing that allows the grade to vary. H (Hard) for hardness, B (Bold) for softness. The higher the number, the harder or softer the pencil.

Carré B is therefore a soft square.

Explore the creation of backgrounds by playing with the edges of the carré, or create fine, detailed lines with its edges. The harder you press down on the carré, the denser the resulting material.

The Pierre Noire Carré is ideal for nudes, landscapes and quick sketches. Use the harder HB carrés for fine details and contours, and the softer B and 2B leads for shadows and dark areas.

Pierre Noire Carrés are perfect for covering large surfaces, either directly with the edge of the carré or by making a powder beforehand and spreading it over your surface.

Conté à Paris Carrés can be sharpened with a utility knife, but are often best filed with sandpaper or a nail file.

This pastel can also be combined with other techniques such as charcoal or ink.

It is very popular for use on all media, including sketch pads, Kraft paper and linen canvas.
